Honestly? I'd love it if there was a kill switch in my phone.
Should it be government mandated? No. 90% of the population doesn't need it or want it and those tax dollars could at least go to cancer research or something.

Republicans would love it too, no need to spy on your opponent before the elections, if you can turn the motherfucker off.

Why do we need it? If people want it, then they'll get a phone with it. The government doesn't need to mandate it

Oh yes, wonderful idea. Who wants to bet AT&T, Verizon, and the other carriers will find a way to make good money on this.
Monthly service fee for remote kill service
One time fee for remote wipe
One time fee for remote kill
Oh, and the full retail price of a new phone!

So they want to make it easier for someone to maliciously brick our phones? Also easier to brick the phones of dissidents.

You know...I found it funny when plans were revealed that the EU might attempt to legislate kill-switches in automobiles, the NHTSA comes out and says it wants all cars to talk to each other for safety reasons...which by necessity mandates a kill-switch as well. Now there's this.
Very clever, USA, but not clever enough.
